OOC: I seem to begin most of my post with "Esau-insert action here-" don't I.
IC: Esau spotted the perfect opportunity to get himself out of dodge. He lifted his head and looked to Isaac with a look that implied "I'm getting up now, I hope you're okay with it." When he was standing he looked around the room at everyone with him. Then he looked specifically in the direction of Damon and Rebekah and swallowed with anticipation. He was desperately hoping they would get his meaning and pay attention. He opened his mouth, "Thank you, Isaac, I am infinitely thankful that you have given me this chance to explain myself. To be honest, Isaac, I was imitating you. Not in a rude or sarcastic way, not in the slightest, but instead out of admiration. I began my little sermon with a prayer to He Who Walks Behind The Rows," he paused with thought and then continued, "'Thank you oh masterful Lord of the universe for excepting our sacrificial blood. We know and accept that it is You, and You alone who allow us to exist. Amen.'" He finished his initial prayer and continued, only now he began to walk around the room, speaking to everyone, "'What have learned from our leader, Isaac, the Speaker of His Law. We learn that each and every one of us must someday go to join our Lord in the field. But do not fear, for we are all His children and His love is deep for us because we choose to follow Him in his wisdom,'"At that, Esau turned back to Isaac, and looked deep into his eyes with a look of utmost sincerity and compassion on his face. "That is what I said, give or take a word or two, but for the most part it is accurate, afterall it only happened earlier today. You see, Isaac, I was only conveying what you have told us. I was merely spreading you wisdom." He looked to Isaac, hoping for a reply. He didn't know what would happen, however he felt he had outdone himself in his ruse.

Damon glanced at Esau before turning back to the preacher boy, "Isaac, I'm uncertain of why Esau has lied to you. I don't understand why he would. I'm sure he must've had a good reason for it..." Damon questioned himself and began to doubt whether or not he believed, let alone whether or not Isaac would. "Esau seems to do things with every bit of good intention. Just earlier he tried to calm Ruth. He didn't do it in spite of you or He Who Walks Behind the Rows, and certainly not in the intent to be disrespectful." he looked to Esau to back him up slightly even if it was just a small gesture. "Even if telling a single lie makes it hard to determine whether or not you are lieing about other things. But I'm sure after doing it once he will learn not to do it again...?"

"Great!" Esau thought, he is sure he is in the clear. He gave Isaac that same "I'm-going-to-speak-look" and began to talk, "Oh yes, absolutely my wise leader, I have most certainly learned. I only wish now to put this whole ordeal behind us and marry my beloved Rebekah." As he finished talking he looked to Rebekah with a warm, loving face, and then turned back to Isaac.

"Your claim," Isaac began, eyes narrowed, "was that you taught a unholy sermon. Not that you offered a prayer to the Lord." He flicked his gaze over Rebekah, who would likely lie to defend her spouse, and squared it on Damon.
"Does he speak the truth?" he asked the boy, his voice deceptively kind. "Is this his sin? Did he offer you lacking spiritual knowledge, and did you eagerly listen and obey it?"

"I don't recall a sermon, but i don't pay much attention to those that parent you, Isaac, for you are the only one that can hear He Who Walks Behind the Rows and what he commands of us. I guess if Esau said he preached i suppose he probably did." Damon didn't understand what the point in lieing about such a thing was, and moreover didn't know why he would lie about something that would only make matters worse. "I'm sorry Isaac, my attention span is short." He bowed his head in a gesture to show that he had remorse for his lack of help.

"Very well, Damon," Isaac said with a careless shrug. He had little interest in the shy creature that was Damon, and turned his attention to Rebekah, who was shifting impatiently from foot to foot. "Rebekah," he crooned, "what have you to say? The heresy you mentioned earlier. Was it Damon's twisting the words of our Lord, offering teaching from He Who Walks Behind the Rows that the Lord did not offer?"
Rebekah scratched her head. "Um, maybe. I'm with Damon here. Don't really remember. I thought it was the abbreviation thing. He abbreviated it, and was all 'I did it during worship' and I was all horrified and mortified and flabbergasted and flapperjacked and a lot of other 'ed words, and --- Well, if he says he preached," she shrugged, "he probably did. He must not be very good at it though, if I didn't notice. Not that I notice much. In fact, nobody notices Esau. That's why I want to marry him." She finished this last part with great emphasis. Geeze, Isaac could get off topic. She just wanted to get married, and Isaac was trying to figure out whether or not her fiance liked to use abbreviations.
"Very well," Isaac said, though he showed little interest in performing a marriage ceremony. He paused in thought, though it was merely a rehash of the same troubling ones as before. The Lord's silence regarding Esau, the mesh of truth and lie, the nagging doubt. For once, words rose from his throat unbidden, unplanned. "I wish to speak with Esau alone." He stepped deliberately around the others, and motioned for the boy to follow him to another room of the dwelling. "Please, Rebekah, Damon," he looked over his shoulder, "please stay put." He nodded at Malachai to illustrate the order, and continued out.
OOC: Now, Esau. Make new thread. Rebekah and Damon be alone now.

Damon shyly hid his face briefly from Rebekah then cleared his throat to speak. He straitened up and shifted so that his weight was more on on foot than the other. "So what is it about Esau you like? He seems nice and all." He realized he probably sounded rude, but he wondered if rebekah would even see it like that.

Rebekah watched Isaac and Esau leave, her normal blank expression stretched across her features. "Huh. I wonder what they're gonna talk about," she mused absently, before blinking towards Damon. "Oh, were you speaking? Sorry, I didn't notice right away. Anyways, I love Esau because I never noticed him. Like I told you before, I need to marry a guy no one notices so that people will notice me and my awesome wifing-mothing abilities."

"I don't think being invisible will make people notice one way or another... I think it's just how good you are." He faked a smile trying to be charming. "I don't think you'll ever be invisible with such an outgoing personality. Anyway," he tried to change the subject, "I'm sure they're talking marriage kind of stuff." Damon dropped to the floor and sat now that he wasn't in the presence of Isaac.

Rebekah tossed her hair behind her, pleased with the compliment. "I know I will always be noticed," she declared. "Who could ignore me? But you know how the stars shine so bright at night because they're pressed against black? I wanna be like that. Shining, but looking to shine even more so 'cuz I'm next to something unnoticeable. Although..." she slumped down regretfully at Damon's side. "Isaac sure seemed to notice Esau. Why'd he have to be so stupid?" she fumed, forgetting that she was the one who brought up Esau's deficiencies in the first place.

"Well," he tried to come up with something that would please her so, but nothing "Hmm... Well the sun is certainly noticeable but it is in a bright blue sky. Maybe you could be like that. You could shine so bright it wouldn't matter how bright your sky was." He felt slightly dumb for saying such a corny thing (no pun intended).

OOC: I liked your corny statement, I didn't necessarily think it to be that, but still.

Rebekah thought about the notion, and a pleased smile stretched across her features. But after a few seconds, it tumbled from her face, and her mouth fell into a horrified gape. "I can't be that good!" she shouted. "If I am, then people will be horrified with me! See, if you look at the sun, you can go blind. Nobody looks at the sun! I want people to look at me!" Without skipping a beat she added, "Do you think Isaac will have Esau killed? 'Cuz then I could pretend to be all grieving and stuff. I could be the best griever Gatlin's ever seen..." she stroked her chin thoughtfully. "That could be a fun goal to achieve. I have lots of goals. I don't achieve them a lot, but that's just 'cuz I come up with a new, more noble one. Do you ever get any goals, Damon?"

Damon tilted his head for a moment, "it seems when I get goals I forget what they are after a while." He became displeased with his forgetfulness and let out a small grunt of frustration. "In any case, the sun may be bright but people still look at it even if it blinds them, besides Isaac is better than that even and he still gets looked at." he smirked and then covered his mouth to hide a small grin on his face. "All I'm saying is I don't think it would matter what man you had, you would out shine all the other girls in Gatlin." His face turned a deep red as he looked to the ground he sat on.

Rebekah nodded as though the compliment was expected, "Well, duh," she shrugged. "Like I said, I'd be the perfect woman if I wasn't as flat as a board." She did not mention her numerous other flaws, such as being nearly as tall as Malachai, or her nondescript facial structure.
"Personally, I can't imagine not having a goal," she blinked at the thought. "I've always wanted to be the very best. Like no one ever was. Right now to catch a husband is my real test. To raise children is my cause."
