The twins stopped when they noticed Feng sitting by them. They both backed away form each other a little, then cleared their throats acting like they weren’t doing anything. “So you finally decided to join us again huh?” Joan asked nicely. Jude still didn’t say anything, he just pulled the quilt up higher, over himself and his twin. “What made you decide to do that?”

Feng saw that they had stopped kissing each other, whatever they were really doing, and just tried to forget it as best he could. He gulped again and sat down on a trunk. He shrugged at Joan but was kind enough to nod in addition to his response, but didn’t bother to look at Jude as he moved the quilt up. When Joan had asked why he came back up, he just shrugged again. Sharply but convincingly he said to Jude, “Sorry. But you’re still a doo-doo head.” He would fold his arms if he could but instead he looked down at the floor. And that started to bring tears to his eyes because he didn’t really mean to upset Jude. Quivering, he tried not to cry, but started hiccupping out sobs.

Both twins turned and then tilted their heads has the small boy began to cry. “Say something,” Joan insisted.
“Like what? Besides you’re the motherly one.” He nudged her along.
“But you’re the one that made him cry.”
So after a few nudges in the right direction, Jude got up and came over. “Yeah well you’re a turd.”
“Jude!”
“I mean—cheer up. That face is not an attractive one, and you don’t want it to get stuck.”
“Better,” but she still wasn’t impressed.
Jude opened his arms and waited for Feng to give him a hug. However getting an apology from him was near impossible.

The twins did quarrel, a little, and Joan was right; Jude did make him cry. He instantly glared up at Jude when the young man had called him a turd, but then Joan had snapped at him. Jude apparently had a better choice of words, slightly. It wasn’t really funny but it was enough to make the boy smile just so slightly that if Jude was watching very carefully he would’ve seen it but if he blinked he would’ve missed it. He watched as his older brother opened his arms wide, and with a heavy sigh, Feng figured a hug was better than an apology, so he accepted it by going into the embrace and returning it tightly with his good arm. When he was able to stand on his own again, no longer in the embrace, he yawned a little and then asked. “Well… enough scary stories for now. What do we do now?”

Jude squeezed the boy tightly, then let go without saying anything else. He crawled back over to his spot and pulled Joan back where she had been. He wiggled around till he was completely comfortable and then played with his sister’s hair.
Joan rolled her eyes at her twin, because until he got comfortable, she couldn’t. So it was rather irritating to have his being squirmy. But then he settled, and she settled too. She rested her head on his chest and then pulled the blanket back up the way Jude had it earlier.
They both stared at him with wide eyes. “Well, what do you want to do?” the two said in stereo.
“It’s getting dark. Actually—it is dark,” Jude stated the obvious.
“But we have a ginormous flashlight.”

He yawned again and gave them a shrug as a response. Just then, his eyelids had fallen, and the boy was leaning side to side, back and forth, as if he was a kitten trying to stay asleep. But unfortunately, the boy was already fast asleep because of the exhaustion from today’s events, and soon enough, he started falling forward. Hopefully, one of the twins would catch him and then lay him down nicely on his so-called bed.

Jude got back up, and although it irritated Joan a bit, she was okay with it because he did it to tuck the boy in properly. He went over and picked him up, rested him down and covered him up, before coming back to his spot by his sister.
Once the two of them settled down again, Jude brushed Joan’s blond hair with his slender fingers, and she fell asleep to the comfort of her brother’s caressing. And then he too fell asleep with a hand on her head.

Feng shifted around to make himself more comfortable, although he had remained in his sleep through the entire endeavor. Things got quiet in the attic, although the crickets from far down on the ground would start to chirp. The moon shone brightly through the window. He yawned out loud, turned to his side facing the twins, but of course never opened his eyes again until morning came.
