Damon and Rebekah were almost back to Gatlin. The sun wasn't quiet up and a sign said 'Gatlin 1=>'. Damon still had baby Noah in his arms and he would soothe her when she would cry. Although he was very tired, and when he saw the sign it was enough to make him hand baby Noah over and give up.

Rebekah was the picture of exhaustion. While she fancied herself superwoman, usually, today she knew that title wouldn't hold an ounce of water. Her legs were about to fall off, she felt. Her shoulder was still troubling her from that Outlander's interference hours before.
Her legs were about to fall off. Her legs were about to fall off. Her legs were about to fall off.
Twenty miles, from Hemingford to Gatlin. She had gotten a snack, earlier, an apple she found in the woods she had ducked in, but it hadn't curved her hunger.
Still, she was happy. "We have Noah," she breathed, smiling at her husband. "We have to get her christened by Isaac. She's our baby. We did it."

When all the other boys said marriage was a chore, somehow he didn't expect it to be like that. He was so thirsty, and extremely hungry. He hadn't eaten since they left, and it was almost that since he had drank anything. But he had to get the family back to safety before he would just let his body give up. I wish i had something to lean on, just for a while. The thought had occurred to him that Noah was put on the front steps by Esau, because a baby can't get there by itself, be he wasn't going to bother to mention it.
"Could you take Noah for a while? That is-- if you don't mind, you know with your arm being what it is." He felt very dizzy and out of focus, being as tired as he was. He didn't want to accidentally drop Noah, his daughter, he grinned.

"Huh?" Rebekah had already retreated into her own thoughts. "Oh. Oh, yeah. Sure." She carefully took the baby from Damon, squinting as her shoulder protested the sudden weight it had to help support. Even so, she held it closer, staring down at it with all the love the mother she murdered for it must've looked. "She's beautiful," she observed, eyeing the long black lashes that Noah already possessed. She grinned at Damon. "I'm going to be the mother of the most beautiful girl in Gatlin," she annuonced, hugging the girl closer to her breast.

"Yes you will." Damon padded Rebekah's ego. "And everyone will be jealous. Just like they are already are." Although, he mostly meant it about himself. He's always been jealous of Rebekah's HUGE ego. He smiled sweetly as he stared at his wife and adopted child. He was already determined to be the best father he could be.

Out of the corner of her eye, Rebekah saw it, in the distance. The buildings, chopped rectangles against the burning sky. The undeniable holy presence.
The acres upon acres of corn.
"We're home!" she gasped to Damon. Then, to Noah she whispered, "We've done it. We've brought you home."

Damon wanted so badly to run home, but instead he just picked up the pace. "I'm so glad to be home. I'm so glad that all that wasn't for nothing. I'm glad to have you both, and He Who Walks Behind the Rows as my God." he talked quickly out of excitement. "And when Isaac sees Noah, he will be proud!"

At the thought of showing Isaac the daughter they had brutally murdered for and kidnapped, a smile spread across Rebekah's face. Isaac would certainly be soo happy. Or, as he would say, 'Most pleased' with their actions. They had gone to Hemingford and rescued a child from Hell's grasp! He'd be all, 'WOW!!!' Just like she had wanted him to be.
Or...wait, no. Maybe not. They had sorta broken some laws. You weren't supposed to try and leave Gatlin. While they hadn't wanted to leave permanently, it still was frowned upon. And they also sorta lost Esau.
"You know," Rebekah mused, "Maybe we should just tell him that we made Noah ourselves."

"But we can't do that! It takes nine months to make a child. It was a lot less than that to take Noah." Damon was freaking out. What were they going to do? what were they going to say?

"We'll tell him it was a miracle," Rebekah shrugged, already comfortable with the lie. "And it was, sorta. We're just really good at making children. As long as he doesn't expect one every day of ever," she shivered at the thought of doing this again, "than I don't think he'll see through it."

"But if He Who Walks Behind the Rows knows so does Isaac. And we walked through His fields to get there--" he broke off thinking really hard about it. Damon knew it wasn't going to be alright one way or the other.

"And he didn't kill us," Rebekah pointed out. She thought for a moment before reluctantly saying, "Maybe we should play this by ear. See how much he knows before we go saying anything. Maybe he's already planned a celebration for our return!"

I doubt that the consummation would be as bad as the day I've had. I should've just done it and had it be that. Really, I can't just say, 'hey Rebekah, I don't think that's a good idea.' No of course not, when have you EVER had the nerve to speak your mind? Damon should his head. He always argues with himself, knowing that he won't ever give his opinion on anything. He would always ask his friend Jacob for advice, and most of the time Damon would be right in his ideals, but even after Jacob agreed with him, he would let the subject go and just do whatever was expected of him. What's the point of advice if no one listens?

I have an idea!
The words were like a spell. For an instant, all the pain in her legs vanished. She was rejuvinated. Her arms were strengthened.
"You do?" she asked, her mouth dropping into an awed gape. Then, as quickly as her joy had appeared --- it vanished. Her expression darkened, and she furrowed her eyebrows. "What, one that's better than mine?"

"Well, fine if you want to go with your idea instead, then you lie to Isaac. But, I'm not helping you with that one." Damon pouted like a five year old. "But I know, what to do!"
