History:
She has lived in fear since then. How can a blind girl do anything but live in fear? But she has something that the other kids don’t. She has a lack of sight. And while she knows Malachi watches her around every turn, she is one of the few kids unafraid of what lies between the rows of corn. She ventures out in the rows to sit and wonder. Nothing bothers her. Nothing reaches her adept ears except the frail leaves crackling against each other.
In a way, her disability has been the strongest ability she owns. She is sharp of hearing and of slight touch, and knows when and where people are. She’s lived her life without sight, and somehow Isaac saw that and knew that, while she should have died because of her inability to be worthy enough to HWWBTR. Somehow, she’s just kept living.
When he turned nineteen, Isaac sent Adam into the cornfield to his death. Eve knew this because she, being quiet, stepped in after the boy. She heard a nearly silent whuffing sound, and knew that was Adam’s body hitting the ground. She knew he was dead, just as she knew she wasn’t alone in the corn fields, but nothing touched her, and she went back to the town. So why doesn’t she believe in HWWBTR? Because it’s easier to not believe in something she’s heard and felt rather than to believe in that thing which scared her more than Adam killing their parents. Apparently, though, HWWBTR never told Isaac that she felt him, and so she never told Isaac, either.[/ul]
