"Maybe Isaac is trying to bargain with him," Rebekah mused, kicking back and leaning her weight against the wall. "'Cuz you know, except for my lack of cleavage I'm the perfect girl. I'm sure Isaac wants me for himself. How could I turn him down politely, though? In a way not to hurt his feelings, I mean? 'Sorry, you're too noticable?' Nah. That'll offend. Ooh! I know! 'Sorry, you're too short.' That'll work..." she paused, and thought back to her fiance. "Well, on the upnote, we haven't had a crucifixion in awhile. It'll be entertaining, at least."

"There aren't any birthdays for a while, so it could be a while till there's another crucifixion." Damon leaned against the wall next to her, stomach still growling loudly. "I think you should say something like, 'Isaac, I think you need a girl that's better match for you in the lord's eyes.' or something of the sort."

"But there ain't no better match for me," Rebekah pointed out. "Also, we don't crucify people on their birthday. We send them into the cornfield. You are hungry," she observed, a small smile appearing on her face. "Maybe I could let you nibble on the cucumber. A nibble! Not a bite. A nibble. One time I offered a person a nibble of my sandwich, and they frickin' ate the whole thing. I never forgave them. It was when I was in third grade. They were in like, high school. I won't lie when I say I was happy when they went into the corn. And not because they got to be with the Lord."

"No, I'll wait for the pie. I've waited this long I'll wait a little longer" He smiled at her childish ramblings. "I would secretly be happy when they walked into the corn field too," he whispered "Even if it may be wrong on some account." Damon held back a chuckle, that managed to escape anyway. "So... do you use sugar in a cucumber pie like you do in most pies? or is it more like a pot pie? Cucumber pot pie. Pot pies are cute. they're like little baby pies!" His blue eyes grew wide with excitement.

"I don't know how to make a pot pie," Rebekah admitted reluctantly. "So, sugar it will be. I'll have to probably fight for my share... But I'm taller than most girls, so I should be fine." She nodded in agreement with herself, a long-coddled habit.

"I hope sugar and cucumbers go okay together." Damon nodded, "No I'm sure they do. What doesn't go well with sugar? Except for maybe salt to a certain extent. Salt and sugar are both in bread... i think." He tugged on Rebekah's sleeve gently. "Can i help make the pie? I want to help."

"No, you may not help!" Rebekah snarled, shaking a fist into the air. "You will taint it! Only Rebekah may make the pie! Too many chefs spoil the pie! And it will be a delicious pie! You come near the pie before it's done," she turned towards Damon, and fished through the pocket at the front of the skirt of her modest cotton outfit and came out with a small carving knife. "Then I cut you!" She laughed with delight at her fake threat.

Esau walked out of the interrogation room with a solemn look on his face.

Damon frowned, unpleased. He always wanted to help, but he never could. (usually because of his own forgetfulness) "Well then what can i do for you, Rebekah?" He stared at her knife, slightly uneasy. Sure it was a fake threat, but when would it turn into a real threat? "Can I clean dishes for you or something? Anything that wont spoil the pie?" he pulled at his shirt.

"Well, you could -- " she broke off when her fiance entered the room. "Hey! There you are!" she leaped up, and waved frantically to him even though he was just a few foot away. "So, what'd Isaac say about our marriage?"

Damon felt his heart sink. Why is it anytime he started going somewhere with her Esau would walk in the room. SURE he's invisible. Everyone seems to notice him. "Pft. he's not that great," Damon mumbled to himself trying to make himself feel better.

Esau walks over to Damon and puts a hands on his shoulder. "I've always had the sense that you have a thing for Rebekah. Just do me a favor, take good care of her."

"Huh? What's goin' on here?!" Rebekah shook her head wildly, looking between Esau and Damon. "I can take care of myself. Or I guess my husband can do it. I guess..." she kicked the ground halfheartedly. It would be hard to be a demure best-wife-ever.

Damon blinked and then stared at Esau stupefied. "What are you talking about?" He's just leaving her? Or did something happen between him and Isaac. Damon assessed the situation. "I thought you were getting married as soon as possible, and having lots of children. You were going to make Rebekah the best wife-mother in the whole town of Gatlin."

Hearing Rebekah, Esau turned to her. "I'm sorry Rebekah, but because of my sin, Isaac has not allowed for us to be married."
