"Vegetables aren't ---" Ruth began, but broke off. Arguing on this point could have disastrous results. If Deborah won the argument, then she'd just have one more thing to be terrified of. And she had enough of those. So instead she said, "We'll wait then. But...don't dress up as something scary."
Flawless logic.

OOC: It died. It's in the shop. XD Hence my lack of activitaty. Sorry! IC: Deborah nodded in solem agreement. "Yes. That's so smart, Ruth!" She wiggle with glee. Waiting would be easier now that she had the approvale of a big kid. "Okay nap time!"

// it's fine. I've been a little tied up myself. \
"Nap..." Ruth repeated the word and worried her lower lip. It was a knee-jerk concern, but although Isaac had retired her, she didn't feel right about taking a nap while there was still daylight. What if it was a trap, to see if she truly enjoyed working the fields or something? "Um, we could try cooking something instead! You like cooking, don't you, Deborah?"

Deborah froze with terror. Cook? She LOVED to cook. But the big kids didn't like her cooking. They were always mad about the mud and rocks she liked to add for natural flavoring. Oh how she'd like to cook again today. But Ruth might snap at her and not like her ever again if she somehow screwed up. She nodded her head very slowly. "Yes. I like to cook. Deborah loves to cook...but you won't beat me if I cook wrong right?"

Ruth's eyes sunk into her head at the very idea of a beating. It didn't matter if she wasn't the one receiving it. Beatings were contagious. If Deborah got one, Ruth would be next. "Oh, as surely as He Who Walks Behind the Rows walks behind the rows...no!" she shuddered.
But after she recovered, something else occurred to Ruth. "Wait. Why would I beat you now?" Would poison be involved? Maybe the Halloween Candy had given Deborah some dark ideas. She narrowed her eyes.

Deborah jumped back from Ruth's sudden no and stared awkwardly at the bigger kid as a brief silence came over the pair. "You'd beat me...cause of the wrongs cooking I do. The big kids always get mad cause of the wrongs cookings...and your a big kid...sooo..." She lifted her arms above her head to protect her face just in cause Ruth suddenly snapped at her again and went for the attack. Ruth seemed odd like that.

'A big kid?' Did Deborah just called her a big kid? Ruth stared blankly at the younger kid, her mouth dropped into a gape. A big kid. Wowee. She had never thought of it before, but yeah. To the little kids, she was of the club of big kids.
The thought filled her with pride. She was so used to staring up at everyone else, and had never had someone look up at her with fear. She wondered if this was what Isaac felt like all the time. (That was a nasty thought. Isaac wasn't arrogant, like her. His respect was due).
Still, Ruth put her hands on her hips and wore a grin. "I am a big kid!" the eight-year-old declared, tilting her chin to the air. "But I wouldn't beat you. Mercy and forgiveness for the Lord's Children, I say! No beatings! Especially for little girls!" Especially them. She knew most considered her a 'little girl' still. Best cover the bases.
Then she realized. "Wait. What do you mean bad cooking?" Thoughts of poison once again srung into her mind.

Deborah slightly flinched as Rutch exclaimed her big kid status. But it didn't look like a beating was coming so Deborah dropped her arms back down at her side. "YAYS! NO BEATINGS! Your the best big kid...well next to Issac. YAYS!" Her excitement was cut short by the questions. "The other big kids don't like the flavorings I add. They say it's bad."

Ruth's heart stopped. "What, um, what sort of flavorings, Deborah?" she stared wide-eyed at the little girl, looking at her more like she was an outlander than a child. "Strychneine? Arsenic? A rattlesnake? Don't put those in!"

Deborah's arms shot up to protect herself from Ruth's sudden outburst. "Okays okays! I dunno what any of that stuff is anyways!" She shivered. They sounded scary whatever they were.
"Ums...I put in stuff like natural flavorings. Like dirt. Corn eats dirt and we eat corn. So we should eat some dirt too. It's good?"

Ruth's eyes bulged, and she shrunk backwards. "Dirt?" she whispered hoarsely. "You put dirt in our food?!" But her initial shock silenced and she thought. Deborah had a point. Corn ate dirt. She ate corn. Why not cut out the middle-man?
"That's smart," she agreed after puzzling. "Let's do that! Let's go make something! With dirt as the main ingredient!"

Deborah nodded. "Yeah I puts dirt and things in our food..." She grinned happily. "YEAH! Let's go cooks dirt! What kinda dish should we make?" Deborah giggle with glee. Finally another person to understand her cooking process!

"A good one," Ruth replied with a grin. "I don't think anyone will care what we make. After all, they'll be so happy that we were smart enough to cut out the middle man!" She grinned, the fact that Deborah had been forbidden from cooking because of her tendency to pour dirt into the meal alluding her.

"Oh okays then! Let's make...um pudding? We'll need lots of dirt for that." Deborah grinned. "Okays so we should go get the dirt so we can start cooking." She suggested with glee. This was going to be amazing. Maybe everyone could have some for desert and then it'll be so good that she and Ruth would be made desert chefs for life! That'd get Issac's attention for sure!

Ruth nodded, relieved that she had found someone that knew what they were doing. Her pride was a little stung that someone so much younger than her possessed such wisdom, but she just told herself that it was because the youngest children were closest to God. She couldn't remember being five years old very well, so she guessed maybe she had been that wise and filled with God-wisdom back then, too.
"Right!" she agreed, bobbing her head up and down solemnly. "Where's the best dirt? The cornfield?" That was where the corn ate its dirt, after all. "Do we need a bucket to get it?"
