Once Damon got to the girls' communal home, feeling rather awkward about it, stopped to take a breath. Some of the girls coming in and out giving him looks, some for his harsh breathing, others because girls are girls. Once his breathing was calmed and steady again he stood up strait and looked out for his no doubt angry wife.

"Looking around, eh?" Rebekah jeered, hobbling towards her husband. She was having difficulty walking, between the unholy trio of the pain on her back, the corn in her dress (she had even stuffed some of the ears where her breasts would have been if she wasn't as flat as the world was once thought to be) and the rage burning in the very core of her soul. "See something you like, pervert?" She was still rather upset about the earlier conversation she had, where Damon objected to going to the communal homes on the grounds of women wandering around naked. Anyone who thought that happened was perverted.
The Communal Home was a long rectangular building reminiscent of the old longhouses Iroquis Indians liked to construct. But wedged against the side were a series of ovens that the girls sometimes used to cook. They were by no means the ones that Gatlin relied on for cooked food, but they certainly got the job done.
"Let's cook," she growled, pouring her corn atop one of the stoves.

Damon ignored her snide comments, mostly because at this point he was too into the cloud, or his head was, either way, he was there physically, but not mentally. And, without thinking he replied to her, "You sound like my gramma used to. She was also a scary woman." Then his mind came back down to earth. "Erm-- I mean-- yes let's make pie." He crossed his fingers she didn't hear him, but no doubt she did, because that was just Damon's luck.

Rebekah had been rummaging beneath the oven for a proper pan to begin to boil the corn when Damon's snide comment about his grandmother. The words cut into her, and the handle slippd out of her fingers landing on the ground with a clang. However, she didn't scoop to pick it up, but neither did she whirled towards Damon and begin berating him. Instead, she just gave him a cold glance over her shoulder.
But that was all.
"Go away," she said flatly, bending for the pan she had dropped. "I don't need you."

Damon's eyes shifted around. It would be more comfortable to go off on his own and do his Damon thing, which was probably go work in the field or something of that sort, but-- it also seemed wrong to just leave Rebekah. "But-- we were going to make the pie and take it to Isaac-- And-- And-- You're mean!" It was true, his inner child came out, and was now calling his wife names.

Rebekah acted as though she hadn't heard her husband, and began to stoke the fire. "Am not," she said after a few moments. She paused from her busywork and turned to Damon. "You're just a coward." She said the words simply, not changing her tone from the one she would use if she were commenting that the weather had been particularly dreary recently. To remind her of the truth, her body howled in pain from the earlier punishment doled out at Solomon's hands, a punishment Damon had been excused from.

"Well-- my cowardice isn't made better by your bossiness." Damon crossed his arms and made a scowl. "You'r e mean and bossy, just like all the adults."

Rebekah stiffened. That slight was even worse than his comparison to the grandmother he loathed. "Oh, so you think I should just hop into a cornfield and be swallowed up, is that it?" she challenged. "Well, I think you should just hop onto a cross and get eaten by He Who Walks Behind the Rows, you cowardly---jerk!"

"I didn't say to run out into the corn and get eaten. But if you did at least I wouldn't have to hear you complain and insult me any more. You're a mean doo-doo head. You never say anything nice." His eyes narrowed into a glare.

Rebekah sniffed indignantly. "Not true!" she snarled. "You just don't remember! All cowards have bad memories!" Not pausing to puzzle over the flaw in that statement she swept onwards. "See, one time, you were all 'Gah! I'm too weak to carry this and I'm useless to the fold' and I was all 'Nuh-uh! You're plenty useful! You could sit in the field and scare the crows away!' Nice things to say, brought to you by Rebekah!" Not that she was entirely sure she had that conversation with Damon, but she had it with someone who might've been Damon.

Damon stood with a dumfounded look on his face, partly because they had never had that conversation, and mostly because even if they had, that's not really something nice to say to someone. "Scaring the crows away? You never said that to me. You never talked to me till yesterday, except for the time we were in kindergarden when you shoved me and told me to get out of the way, and then proceeded to call me a fatty. And the entirety of out marriage you haven't done anything but pick on me."

Her husband was upping the stakes. Rebekah wasn't about to fold. "That never happened," she denied, turning her head away abruptly. Or rather, she couldn't remember it happening, and therefore it couldn't be true. "And in the entirety of the marriage, you've never once come to my aid as a husband should! You're always making me suffer 'cuz you're a coward!" No mention of the fact that she usually got herself into the trouble that made her suffer.

Damon got offended, "I came back for you when you got yourself stuck under the kitchen table at that couples house in Hemmingford! And besides, you never did anything wifely for me, so stop being so-- self-righteous. I know I'm not wonderful, but you're the one who wanted to get married remember." He stuck out his tongue at her like a small stubborn child.

"Yeah, I remember," she bit off each word. "I also remember I originally wanted to marry Esau. He may be a heretic, but at least he's a man! Sure, you came back," she acknowledged with a sweeping, obnoxious bow, "but you also ---you also...you also let me take the punishment for the excursion for both of us! Yeah. Ouch." Rebekah nodded in agreement with herself, knocked an ebony hair out of her face, and continued, "And maybe I'd be a better wife if you claimed your rights as a husband, you coward!"

"You realize being a man in this society is a bad thing--" he said quietly, then spoke up. "Yeah well, I came to Isaac and told him the truth, despite what the consequences might have been, and I figured it would be death, where you went to Isaac and lied to him. Real cowards lie." Damon raised his head smugly, "And-- You're annoying."
