"Silence Sonya," Isaac said, although he knew full well that the psychotic would not silence herself anymore than the golden sun would turn purple. Despite her declarations of divorce in a marriage that never happened and her nonsensical insults regarding his alleged former obesity (key word being alleged. Isaac had never exceeded a healthy weight, thank you very much) his attention was diverted by Ruth's cries.
She was being eaten by...corn?
"I am pleased she seems to be getting better," he observed to himself. Seeing that she could walk, he left Sonya and offered Ruth his hand. "Would you like me to guide you out of here?" he asked. Normally he wouldn't bother with a duty such as this, as he usually had better things to do. But it seemed he was surrounded by morons.
And Damon.
Still.
Then he noticed the beatings. "Oh. Stop that."

Ruth waved Isaac away. He may order a beating for her later for being rude but --- but she wasn't going to be around later to receive it. Now she was just worried about him being around later. "Don't bother!" she cried. "Isaac, go, save yourself. The corn wants to eat me. If you help me, it'll eat you too..." With that, she collapsed into the corn, more out of theatrics than weakness.

Sonya stuck out her tongue at Isaac in response to being told to shut up. "You're just jelous you don't have a fab body like myself." She turned back to Damon. "Welp. You heard the shrimp. You better back off. I'm a Captain now. I'll totally court-martial your behind if you try to kick mine."
"Yes!" Deborah squealed with glee from being crushed by Ruth. She tried desperately to grab onto Isaac's outstretched hand.

Ruth blushed. Well, now she was dying and was stupid. Isaac was smart - he knew she couldn't be saved. Instead, he was going to rescue the young Deborah. "Yes, yes!" Ruth cried, as a sharp wind blew and a ear of corn slapped her in the face. "Save Deborah! It's too late for me...though this being eaten alive business is sure taking awhile..."

Damon shot a glare at Sonya as he pushed himself up off the ground. He mumbled complaints to himself, brushed the dirt off his clothing, and rubbed the back of his head. "Captain of-- " he decided it was best to stop that sentence for a couple of reasons, one of which, he was really tired of being a punching bag. "Well-- Now that that's all done and over with-- I'm going back--" Back to what? Rebekah and the pie. He groaned, and started to push his way through the stocks.

Isaac didn't acknowledge Damon's departure. Or Sonya's further insanity - though he knew that was certainly happening, because he had never known Sonya not to be a little off.
"Deborah," he said casting a glare onto the child, "I wasn't speaking with you. I was trying to assist Ruth." He stared at the 8-year-old rolling in the corn, and his mood didn't lighten at all. "You will cease doing that at once," he ordered. "You are decimating the corn. We will leave this field. Now."

For once, Ruth grew annoyed with Isaac. She was being eaten alive by corn, and he was scolding her and ordering her around? "The corn is decimating me!" she snapped, trying to knock the preacher's hand away. Sure it was striking the holy one, but she was about to be eaten by corn.
It was liberating.
"HA! I won't be around long enough for a beating! I'll never leave this cornfield! Ha ha ha! No more beatings!"

OOC: I apologie for the follower post. IC: Isaac had quite enough of this. Between Sonya's inane jabber, Damon's failure to subdue her, and Deborah's attention grubbing -- and now normally obedient Ruth's rebellion, his patience had worn thin. "You will come with me," he growled, leaned down, and went to slap Ruth across the face.

"Want me to just beat the crap outta the punks. For securty sake?" Sonya suggested. Perhaps it would be better to order some subordinate to do it as Captain. But it was fun to get ones hands bloody.
Deborah whinced at Isaac's harsh gaze. "S-sorry..." She curled up in a ball until Isaac started yelling about getting out of the corn. She instant leap to her feet and ran as fast as she could out of the reach of the corn.

"OUCH!" Ruth yelped as Isaac's hand collided with her face. Her cheek still stinging, the eight-year-old glared defiantly up at the leader of what was, to her, the entire world. "I'm. Being. Eaten. By. Corn!" she snarled, biting off each word as though it killed her. "I can't come with you --- yes!" She saw her friend flee. "Go! Save yourself! I forgive you for feeding me to the corn, too!"

"Um...Isaac...I think she's bein' eatens by the corns..." Deborah said tehn covered her mouth in shame. She had cause this. It should be her that got eatens by the corn. But she was way to scared to even try to trade places with Ruth. "I'mma SORRY Ruth!!!! I'll never forgets you!!!"

"S'okay," Ruth returned, crossing her arms and settling into the corn. Her life flashed before her eyes - but it only took a moment, since she was just eight. She remembered the sinful life of her parents when they perched her in front of Care Bears and did whatever it was sinful grown ups did. And she remembered the joyous time of the purging. Then her brother went to see He Who Walks Behind the Rows. Then she remembered being eaten by corn. Which brought her to now.
This was sure taking longer than she thought it would. But it was just itchy, not painful, so she guessed it was okay. On a death, she'd give it a 7/10. It passed, it wasn't painful, but it wasn't quick and dramatic, either.

Isaac ignored the banter between Ruth and Deborah. It was apparent that not only was Ruth proving to be insolent, but she was also having difficulty in registering the differences between reality and fantasy. This was something that could be remedied.
"Susanna," he looked towards Sonya, who had come up to him asking about whether a 'pounding' was in order, "take Ruth. Chastise her for deliberately falling into a habit of disobedience."

"Chastise me?" Ruth deadpanned, tearing an arm free from the inescapable corn and scratching her forehead. "But, Isaac...I'm being eaten by corn. This is the time to be saying heartfelt goodbyes, not telling scolding me. Scolding -- that's what chastise means, right?" she laughed nervously. It would be awful if she spent her last few moments of life by enduring a beating, despite her devil-may-care attitude earlier.

Sonya's face lit up with glee. Nothing was as fun as beating on a helpless small child. They were like little punching bags that screamed and bleed. "Chastise means..." She leaped over towards Ruth until she was in punching distance. "IT'S PURGING TIME!" Sonya attempted to drop down on Ruth's gut with her knee.
